COMPARE & CONTRAST

MOM VS. DAD

MOM

VS.

DAD

                                                  Parents

It is said that our parents are the only ones obligated to love us. From the moment we’re born, our parents already love us; for the rest of the world, we still have to earn that love. Our parents make us feel what genuine and unconditional love is. Our parents take great care in our upbringing and provide us with our physical needs as well other important elements such as love and care.

There is no such thing as being a perfect parent. There is no greater responsibility and no greater privilege than being a parent. They have different parenting styles and various approaches when it comes to giving discipline. Consequently, the styles and approaches cause a big impact on a child’s development and relationship with his/her parents.

In my case, my mom is kind and understanding while my dad is a man of strong character. My parents are very different when it comes to parenting. I’m currently in the phase of my life where I like to hang out with my friends and go to new places. But as I was raised, I always ask permission first. On Fridays, I usually hang out with my friends and eat. My mom would most likely say something like, “O, it’s Friday. Saan kayo pupunta?” Without even mentioning about my gala, my mom would already bring it up. From her answer, I would assume that she’s giving me permission. On the other hand, my dad would say something like, “Friday ngayon. Umuwi nang maaga. Kung gagala ka, hanggang SM Tunasan lang.” With that situation in mind, you can probably already get the gist of my parents’ personalities. My mom is less strict while my dad appears to be the typical strict and overprotective dad. But just like any other person, my parents also have a “different side”. While my mom appears to be a care-free parent, she never forgets to give me a kiss before leaving for school. She always reminds me of the dangers I might encounter and to take extra precaution especially when I’m commuting on my way home. While my dad appears to be a very firm parent, he is actually a “softie” on the inside. He usually says “no” at first but after a little convincing with a touch of the “daddy’s girl” magic, he eventually agrees. In addition to that, my dad never fails to brush my hair and give me a kiss on the cheek before I go to bed.

My parents are very different in their discipline approach; but at the end of the day, they have a similar goal – it’s to keep their daughter safe. I understand their reasons, and I am very thankful to have parents who give discipline with love. My parents also show the same amount of support for everything that goes on in my life. I’m lucky enough to have parents who are always present in every competition I ever joined. Another example which will show my parents’ support is on my decision to lose weight. During summer my parents always accompanied me to the gym we were basically gym buddies. In addition to that my mom started preparing healthier meals for me and let me decide the portions of food that I wanted to eat in order to lose weight. On the other hand while my dad supported me he was also very worried and would often force me to eat more or buy take outs of my favorite food so that I would be forced to eat. I thought that maybe because my mom is a woman so she knows how much women value their physical appearance so she supported me more but I also understood my dad’s point and I know that he’s just worried that I’m not getting the right nutrition.

My mom and dad are two totally different individuals who share a common responsibility to be a parent. My mom is warm, easy going, and loose while my dad is strict and authoritative but loving on the inside. Parents are all the same when it comes to their children. They set aside their differences and even defer their own needs and desires in favor of the needs of their children. Truly parents’ love for their children is like nothing else in the world.
